about

To those in the know, the album ‘Reggae Owes Me Money‘ represents a blueprint in UK dance music history, undeniably ahead of its time, with its fusion of Breakbeats, Ragga, Hip-Hop, Rave, Dub & Techno. It was the first of its kind, at the time.

When music producers & Joint record label Owners/Founders Smiley & PJ (Shut Up and Dance) wanted to produce an album to follow up on the success of their own previously released debut album (Dance Before the Police Come), they knew in which direction they wanted to turn OR rather experiment.

They had a vision to fuse their love of Hip hop with dancehall style reggae vocals, where roughneck ragga mc lyrics could be laid down over the ruffest of breakbeat productions, where elements of dub could sit in synergy alongside rave and Hip hop, they had no idea what the world would think of this concoction, but they knew with every fibre of their being, that this style of music would definitely - TURN HEADS!!
